Espiritu Santo Bay is one of the largest coastal lagoon systems in the Caribbean — vast, shallow, and remote. Accessible only by boat, the bay has remained largely unpressured, which is exactly what makes it one of the top permit destinations in the world.
The flats stretch for miles. Turtle grass and white sand bottom hold permit in numbers that most fisheries can no longer claim. On any given tide, a single angler may sight dozens of individual fish — tailing, cruising, and feeding in conditions that reward patience and precision.
The flagship species. Selective, spooky, and wildly rewarding — Espiritu Santo Bay's permit population is among the most consistent in Mexico.
Juvenile and migratory tarpon inhabit the bay throughout the season. Rolling fish in the mangroves and open water provide an entirely different test.
Some of the largest bonefish in the region feed across the bay's flats. Schools of double-digit fish are not uncommon on the right tides.
Resident snook hold in the mangrove edges and creek mouths. Large fish, aggressive takes, and some of the most technical sight-fishing the bay offers.
Permit are the most demanding species in saltwater fly fishing. They spook at shadows. They reject flies without reason. They test everything — your cast, your guide, your patience. Blacksmith ESB was built to close every gap between angler and fish.
The custom skiffs keep a low profile. The guides know exactly where the fish will be on any given tide. The flies in your box have been selected and tested on this water specifically. What happens after that is between you and the permit.
Plan Your Trip
Every skiff at Blacksmith Lodge was designed and built in-house specifically for Espiritu Santo Bay. Shallow draft, low profile, and purpose-rigged for permit fishing — these boats are an extension of the guide's knowledge of the flats.
The skiff is where every decision happens. The platform, the storage, the rod placement, the push pole — all of it matters. At Blacksmith, it was all thought through.

Blacksmith Lodge operates limited weeks each season. Reach out to discuss availability, trip structure, and what the fishing looks like for your target dates.
