Jorge Angulo Blacksmith has spent his career on Espiritu Santo Bay. He knows this water the way most anglers know their home pool — by instinct, by season, by the light on a given morning. He is the reason Blacksmith Lodge exists where it does, the way it does.
His approach to guiding is defined by patience and preparation. He doesn't move until the conditions are right. He doesn't make a call until he's certain. When he gives the signal to cast, he's already committed to the result.
Jorge built the lodge, designed the skiffs, selected the team, and still poles the platform every season. He is not a figurehead. He is on the water.
Fish with Jorge"I have fished this bay my whole life. Every flat, every channel, every tide. When you fish with Blacksmith, you fish with someone who has never stopped learning this water."
— Jorge Angulo Blacksmith · Founder, Blacksmith Lodge
Every guide at Blacksmith Lodge has spent years on Espiritu Santo Bay. There are no new hires learning the water on your time. The team was built from people who grew up here, who know each flat by name.
While the team is fluent across all four target species, permit are what we train for. The fly selection, the boat placement, the cast angle — every decision in the skiff is made with permit in mind.
The best guides communicate without disrupting the cast. The Blacksmith team is trained in clarity under pressure — how to give directions that translate directly to the shot you need.
